My alternative light source !
Here is some pictures of my recently arrived 445nm laser diode !
I only have a driver that feed the diode of 500mA and the diode can handle 1.1A.
So the power I have now is less than half, maybe 300-400mW , with 1A I will get 1W with blue light
some pictures:
The unjacked Fiber-optic get a nice blue colour when I put the diode at one end
The output seems also nice..
I will try to do some test of this in my nozzle when I got time.
Why I will use lasers?
1. More light for less cost
2. More easy to focus directly into a fiber
3. I like lasers
I have also talked about safety with other ppl, and take in concern that I will use unfocused fiber, there should not be any real dangerous of looking into the light from a distance at 30-50Cm (will not be possible to get closer..
and where I planning to mount my nozzles, there will be impossible to get the light in your face anyway.
But again, this is only some ideas and testing..
If you planning to work on lasers, BE SURE YOU KNOW THE SAFETY FIRST !!!!
I have been working with lasers the last 10-15 years, and know about the dangerous involved.

Re: My alternative light source !
I really like the picture of the laser in the fiber optics! That is NEAT! Yeah, I like the power and light of lasers, but I am too worried about the safety of it.
My alternative light source
Can you give us some idea of the light output compared with say a 3watt led? Also where can they be obtained and some idea of price.

Re: My alternative light source !
Hi
I have not done any test with a 3Watt led.
But I have 2x 3W red led I can do a test tomorrow and compare to one red laser!
Some video and pictures :
The nozzle was working P E R F E C T !!! on the first try !!!! :-)
I did start building my nozzle from scratch yesterday, and finished 1hour ago.
There is only 1 filter in bottom, filled up with straws, and that is all :-)
Ah.. yes and the fiber optic mount inside.
I will upload more pictures later (have no time atm, so enjoy the video)
Red, green, and blue laser:
Blue only:
I have not figure out the total price yet..
But some examples:
Red laser 30$ with driver

Green laser 58$ with driver
http://www.o-like.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=16
And a blue laser 150$ with driver 600mW you can run this at 1000mW of blue light !! that is very MUCH light !!
http://www.o-like.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9&products_id=72
But you can buy one blue laser DIODE for 30-40$ , add a cheap driver (or make one yourself) .
then put it into a housing for 20$ ! so the total for 1W blue is only 50-60$ .
What will the price be for so much light compared in LUXEON cost?
Maybe LED is better ?
Btw, when there was no water, it was no big deal looking into the light source !
Did you know there is also dangerous radiation from LUXEON LEDs also ?

I believe my retina's are burned. That is a thing of beauty!

Re: My alternative light source !
Thank you
Btw, I think I can improve the light if I sanded the optic cables.
All I did was to cut them with an knife !!
