Lighting and Laminar eventually meet Empty Lighting and Laminar eventually meet

Hi guys.
I finally got around to making a video of my laminar nozzle working .... now my lighting project meets my nozzle project Laughing
I wanted as silent an entry into the receive barrel as possible ....... my original idea was to use 'astro-turf' .... the plastic grass.
I thought this would break up the flow without splashing too much ..... but found it quite hard to aquire (and expensive .... up to £30 m2).
I'm now using a fine stainless-steel mesh which is doing the job quite well.
Next on my wish list (there always is one isn't there) is to add a 'knocker' ..... and maybe even an anemometer controlled switch to turn the pump off if it gets too windy (the laminar quality is quite susceptible to side wind).
Anyone have any idea's on some sort of wind speed controlled switch ?

Above filmed at about 8:30 in the morning.
Below filmed at about 8:30 in the evening.

Thanks for the forum guys ..... even this attempt wouldn't have been possible without learning from all of you.
Enjoy ...... and don't get too wet.

Excellent! I love it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the project along the way. I'm still very impressed with you water resistant enclosure for your lighting modules. How many watts is each LED?

Hi Oldsparky,

Where did you get the LEDs from? Im working on my jet now (got a build thread going on this forum) and when it comes to lighting it, I was going to use luxeon star 3w diodes. Yours seems to work, would be good to know where you got them from in the uk. How do you drive them, its quite hard to drive the bigger LEDs without burning them sometimes...

Hi Hoarp001
I ordered the LED's from besthongkong.com

Click here to see their Prolight 5W L.E.D's

Click here to see these LED's in action

I mounted the LED's on heat-sinks cooled by a pc fan.
They have to have a resistor in series so as to limit the voltage and current to acceptable values ...... ohm's law to the rescue Very Happy
They are driven by an RGB controller I bought/built from bigclive.com

Click here to see his miniature RGB controller

That is great Smile

when you use an resistor, do you get the correct mA value to each LED ?
I have 5w LED drivers that are built to the luxeon led, they work perfect.

Liteglow, what luxen driver are you using?

I was gonna use a resistor like this:

Hi Pete,
you're right .... can't see them now @ BestOfHongKong Sad

Seems you can get a ProLight 5W Blue LED from here maybe ? .... still from Hong Kong but I've never done business with them myself.

Good Luck ..... and great work on your nozzle ..... your laminar quality is ace Very Happy

Thanks sparky, I am hoping to improve it before I finish the project.

I have found some 5W power diodes on Farnell. Id show you but the site is down for maintenance. I have been emailing Clive about his controller, and we have come up with a plan to drive this with some high power resistors. Im going to run tests on heatsinks with fans, then machine an aluminium watercooled block which will bolt directly to the bottom of the jet to keep it all compact.
