Head space before Nozzle Empty Head space before Nozzle

Hi,

Can anyone explain what is happening in the head space (between the straws and the plate with the nozzle in) ?

It seems to me that it would be the cause of turbulence. Immediately after the straws, the water should be laminar, but then the majority of this water hits the plate and will be pushed sideways as it has nowhere to go. I would expect this to create significant turbulence around the outlet nozzle area, causing turbulence to be added to the jet.

Has anyone tried with no head space, or minimal head space and had better results?
