WOndering in youtube i found some great videos, particularly marios, sent him a message and he told me to come to this forum to learn more. I remember when i was a kid going to disney and watchind those laminar fountains jumping all arround, was fascinated... couple of years ago, i went to las vegas and again, very impressed with the bellagio fountains... recently i got exited in making my own fountain! actually, not a fountain itself, but a nozzle will do just fine to the swiming pool. I read somewhere that there are stores that sell a perfect "mouth" of the nozzle, i mean the last part of the nozzle, the one i think is the most critical in the project. any way, will talk about that later on. I m brazilian by the way, and congratulations for the projects. the colored nozzles really got my atention!! congratulations all!

Forgot to say may name, Eduardo Lindenmeyer, 22 years old, love to make this kind of handwork stuff! I have studied Phisics and now im studing Economics, first year here in Sao Paulo (17 million habitants), is that what the americans call ( freshmans?). As i said, i studied phisics, and laminar flows are really interesting to study, is that simple, many calculations are required for the best project! see ya guys!

Welcome!

Now we have Brazil, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, and USA! Come on people keep joining!!!!!! This is really cool!

Thanks for the tip on deal extreme. I think I will buy some of the LED's to play around with.

What are your goals with the fountain. How many nozzles? Are you going to include cutting and lights, etc?

Great to have you!

lighting is very probable, maybe 3 nozzles, cutting not for now. The idea of using camera shutter for cutting is very interesting, maybe some day. What about using a column of water of 6meters high instead of a pump? Of course a pump will be needed for climbing the column! Bye

Having a 6 ft column of water is, I think, the best way to go. You would have a very steady stream because it would be completely gravity feed. It's practically a GIGANTIC low pass filter. The bigger the filter the more noise you would be able to filter out.

That did actually happened to me, but it was not something I did know Razz

I did place my pump and huge water bowl 4-5feet up (on my Deck) .
And the laminar nozzle on the ground..
When the pump was ON, it throw the water up in the bowl.

But when I did turn OFF the pump, the water did still throw a nice sweet beam of water out of my nozzle Shocked
But it did not go so far, just like 1feet up, and 2feet away..

A nice low-pass filter Wink but I dont think it would look so nice with a big water tank up in the air Razz

i was actually thinking of 6 meters high, what means 18 feet high...is that alot?
anyway...i dont have too much time for planning and making... but soon ill be able to do it!!
thanks for the ideas

You mechanical engineering types will probably correct me, but using the formula for static head pressure, one foot (30.4cm) of water exerts .4333 lbs (.2kg) of pressure. If we need a pressures of 20 lbs /sq in (about the same as my indoor culinary water pressure) we would need a colum of water about 45 feet (13.7m) high. This is figured as static and not flowing water which I think would mean that the pressure could be substantially lower in an operating fountain with this hight of water colum. Question When I tested using water from my home the stream was shorter than I wanted which, I would think, means that an adequate water column would be dificult to achieve.
