Aqua burn

I recently found this video and im trying to add this effect to my laminar nozzle. Would love to get feedback from the many "great" nozzle experts here what are your thoughts on how they do this?

I don't know any of us who have tried this - yet.
But the concept behind it is to introduce either natural gas or propane into the water stream and ignite it.
Dangerous - yes.
Cool - very.

In your posting it appears they have introduced the gas into the flame in short bursts which following the stream flow through the arc.
It would require an electronic ignitor and a solenoid valve that would quickly turn the gas flow off and on and a gas supply.

Have you done a google patent search for such a device? Maybe this will get you started.

I tried this with Propane.. all im getting is a large burst at the nozzle. I'm steering in to the direction of a liquid fuel like camping fuel.. I ve read on other water fire forums where they are using this because it's not water soliuble ( it floats on the water. this how they get that fire buring on water effect. What im going to do is drill a 1/4" npt hole into nozzle, at the filter pads. im doing this because when i introduce above the straws it destroys the laminar flow. Will have to go to the junk yard and get a 12v fuel pump capabile of bucking the laminar nozzle pressure.

Where is the ignitor located? Hope its after the the water exits the nozzle - otherwise to will probably be an increased chance of an explosion within the closed container if the lit fuel
does not escape or builds up. Thoughts?

the ignitor would be outside the nozzle im using a propane torch right now for testing purposes.

I've seen that before and it is really cool! Please be careful while playing with this. Also document as much as possible for the rest of us. I would like to try that someday too!

will do! I went to the junk yard today and picked up a fuel tank and pump. not gonna do much tomorrow, cause of the big game.. WHO Dat! go Saints... But I want to try get with my brother tomorrow to see what fuels will work. he's a pyro maniac. I should probabbly consult a chemist... ill make sure I have the fire Extinguisher and safty goggles on just in case. may i'll record the protype testing.

Everything went as planned.. after 2 weeks of playing with fuel finall got the mixture right. here is the video.

Looks great - fantastic work. Seeing the laminar stream on fire makes me want to start tonight.

yep, that my son.. he's 8 and in to this as much as we are. I still need to raise the pond border (bricks) and drop the water level down. I believe if i increase the flash point of the fuel, the burn off willl be greater and have less fuel in the ponding area. by no means is this a a stable project. it must be monitored and a fire watch must be present. I can post specifics if anyone is as crazy as I am. this forum has given me help and bulding this so I am more than happy to share specifics when it's complete.

Hey... Congratulation! That's really cool!

I can see that you are burning the mixed fuel with a torch, Have you tried to let the torch on but controlling the fuel injection into the water stream?
I think that you would be able to better control the amount of fuel being mixed switching a valve in a way to find a proper amount of fuel (valve open time) to assure a complete combustion along the laminar arc just before the burst fall into the pond.
Perhaps a simple timer made with a 555 IC would be enough to perform some tests.

That is incredible!!!!!!!! Really solid worrk! I hope to be as crazy as you someday! Right now I'm can on dream of being crazy!! How do you feel it turned out and are you going to change/improve anything?

I will definatelly be adding a control valve for the fuel and keep the tourch flame constant. this is experimental. so a few tweaks to have better control.
