Another San Diego Newbie
Hi all
I have been wanting to integrate a laminar flow fountain(s) with my sculptures,
please see website in my profile, and was so happy to find this forum.. Being at
the complete beginning stage I would like to be able to benefit from all your learning's,
but also realize that you have put a lot of time and effort into creating the perfect stream..
So my first question is, are we allowed to ask design question? I can see that a lot of
the critical parts (such as the nozzle) have been disclosed, but the basic components
dimensions and layout are not. Let me know if anything is off limits.. I hope to be able to
contribute as time goes on..
Anyway, like most of you I was jazzed when I saw the Epcot jumping jets and the Bellagio
inside laminar fountains years ago, but am only getting around to building one now.
Thanks Ken

Hi and welcome to this forum :-)
I`m glad you did join us, and I welcome you to share ideas and all help you can give.
I will check out your web page (designs) when I have finished this post
About what is right\wrong\ illegal i really don't know ?
But I think there is no problem that we create and develop our own design and ideas here.
As one guy from TPB once said: Internet is a place to share and help develop products in common ..
Share is to Care
Anyway Welcome , and ask if you wonder about anything.
Filip

Hi Ken! Neat to have another San Diegan here! I live up in La Costa...
I don't think anything is "off limits", nor do I think anyone is at all secretive or hiding anything. Don't be shy about asking questions!
I'm a total newbie as well, but have built a pretty good small fountain. The basic concept isn't too difficult:
1) slow down the water. Generally, this means moving the water from a thin pipe to a fat pipe.
2) "straighten" the water. Pass it through parallel drinking straws.
3) provide a clean outlet for the water
That's really about it. The devil is in the details, as usual.
Anyways, read this board, search YouTube for videos (I posted a pretty detailed video on how I made my fountain, though as I said, I'm a newbie and it was my first real attempt, so take it with a big grain of salt), and ask any questions you have!
Adam
PS: Are you a juggler as well? And you worked in Finance and IT? I'm a juggler, as well as a programmer at an investment management company. You might be my new best friend!

Hey, I love your kinetic sculptures! I can't wait to see what you do with laminar nozzles.
I don't mind sharing. That's what makes a forum work. If there is something that is proprietary you probably shouldn't be sharing it on a forum anyway.
It's nice to have you!

I did visit your web page !
And the design you have done is incredible nice
I really like the one in your avatar .
It reminds me of a jumping Dolphin , and at the same time, the tail is a flying bird really nice..
Oh... and that dancing step stones was also very cool..
I still cant figure out how they can move like that
